Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Economics Harold W. Kuhn died peacefully in his sleep on July 2, 2014 in New York City, where he and his wife, Estelle (nee Henkin) lived since 2005. He would have been 89 on July 29th.Professor Kuhn received his Ph.D. from Princeton in 1950. He had been appointed at Princeton as an Associate Professor of Mathematical Economics since 1959 and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1963. He retired from Princeton in July 1995, attaining Professor of Mathematical Economics Emeritus status until his death. Kuhn was considered a world-leader in the fields of linear and nonlinear programming, game theory, combinatorial problems, and the application of mathematical techniques.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, six grandsons, and a granddaughter. Funeral arrangements are pending and further information will be shared when it becomes available.
The University flag over East Pyne will be raised at half-mast in his memory July 3 through July 6.
